Blog Juice Calculator

The Blog Juice Calculator is a neat tool provided by Text Link Ads which calculates the relative value of your blog or site compared to others in your field.

However, the site doesn’t currently provide a way to show an up-to-date rating on your own blog. So, as vanity requires, I’ve created yet another Wordpress plugin to provide this up-to-the-minute information direct on your blog.

The plugin updates your Blog Juice weekly so as not to over-burden the Blog Juice Calculator servers. More configuration and output options are planned for the next release.

Installation Instructions (Widget)

As a widget, installation couldn’t be much easier:

  • Unzip the downloaded package and drop the Blog-Juice folder in your Wordpress plugins folder
  • Log into your WordPress admin panel
  • Go to Plugins and “Activate” the plugin
  • Go to Presentation, Sidebar Widgets
  • Drag the Blog Juice widget to the sidebar
  • Click the Widget-Options button (small blue-topped square)
  • Enter the title you want to use for the widget (e.g. “Blog Juice”)
  • Return to the Widget panel and click “Save changes »”
  • Check your blog to see if it’s working!

Installation Instructions (Plugin)

If you prefer not to use the widgeting system, you can also install the Blog Juice the normal way. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Unzip the downloaded package and drop the Blog-Juice folder in your Wordpress plugins folder
  • Log into your WordPress admin panel
  • Go to Plugins and “Activate” the plugin
  • Add <?php blogjuice(); ?> to your Wordpress theme source where you want the info to appear in your blog (sidebar.php is recommended).
  • Check your blog to make sure it’s working!

Please note that the plugin “degrades” gracefully between Widget & non-widget support. It’s up to you.
